The month of January has gone by so quickly! A lot of things happened here in Idrissi School this month: we had Assessment Week for primary and secondary students, we officially started after-school clubs and activities, and the best part is the school trips!
On 25th January 2017, our secondary students had the opportunity to learn and discover about water treatment. Have you ever wondered how our water at home is filtered for everyday use? What processes does the water need to go through to be safe for consumption? Where does the water come from, and where does it go once it is treated?
The trip started at the Sungai Selangor Phase 2 Water Treatment Plant, situated at Bestari Jaya (formerly known as Batang Berjuntai). We were greeted kindly by their staff members who started off our visit with a safety briefing and presentation. The presentation explains on what the water treatment plant does to ensure the water that they treat comes out clean and safe for consumption.

The students then headed out to the water treatment area where they witnessed the action! Basically, the process is as follows:
- Raw water from dam is channeled into the treatment plant
- Raw water goes through flocculation, coagulation, and chemical dosing to produce treated water
- Treated water channeled to balancing reservoir and will be stored until it is time for distribution

That's a wrap for the water treatment plant!
Next on the agenda is a visit to Empangan Sungai Selangor, a dam situated in Kuala Kubu Baru. This dam acts as a reservoir to regulate the water level of the river if it goes below the minimum level. Besides that, the dam has a beautiful and peaceful view and home to many species to animals.

The final visit for the day is the waterfall! From the dam, it was just a few minutes' drive to Jabatan Kemajuan Orang Asli (JAKOA) where we enjoyed the waterfall at Sungai Pertak. The waterfall is situated at a higher altitude, but due to the recent constant rainfall around Selangor area, it was safer to enjoy the waterfall downstream.

Alhamdulillah, it was an eventful day. Much was learned during the trip. The students took home beneficial lessons and find that nature is everyone's playground and we should make the best out of Allah's creation. The students also learned and appreciated the fact that it is not easy to have treated and consumable water - it takes time and a lot of effort.
May Allah bless our efforts and deeds.
